Last week, the Jacob Javitz Center hosted The National Stationery Show and Surtex, the license and design show. The show ran from Sunday, May 15th through Wednesday, May 17th. I had the opportunity to walk the show floor for a bit. There was a lot to see and I also had the pleasure of visiting with some of my designer friends like Ken Oliver, Eileen Hull and Lorine Mason. It is always nice to see them outside of CHA.
Over the last several months I have noticed a couple of really neat trends taking shape not only in the Craft and Hobby Industry, but also in other areas such as the Gift Market and Stationery Market. One of those trends is couture design made from mixed media! Being a mixed media artist myself, I am thrilled to see the attention to mixed media!
This year, the National Stationery Show hosted The Paper Runway! The Paper Runway was an aisle filled with eye candy for this mixed media artist and designer! This was truly my favorite part of the entire show. The Paper Runway was filled with the most beautifully, created couture gowns made from papers, ribbon, paper flowers, feathers, as well as other mixed media supplies.
I am no photographer, but I got some pretty decent shots as I wandered down this aisle at the Jacob Javitz Center. There were so many that I have to split them between two posts. Today is Part 1…enjoy the pictures.
