Hiring a small business coach can feel like a big step.
It’s a big investment, for sure – both in terms of time and money.
For this reason, it’s important that you feel confident that you’re doing the right thing.
In this post, I’m going to share 5 telltale signs that you need a business coach. If you’re experiencing any of these signs, I’d strongly suggest it’s time to hire a business coach – sooner rather than later!
But first…What is Small Business Coaching?
If you’ve never had a coach, you may be wondering, “What does a small business coach do, exactly?”.
To put it simply, a small business coach is someone who can help you set and meet goals in your business.
They have expertise in running and growing businesses and have usually already achieved a great deal of success in their own business.
Basically, a small business coach will help you get from where you are right now, to where you want to be in your business!
Business coaching is also – and I love this definition – a trusted partnership. It’s a safe relationship between two people who are both committed to seeing you achieve success.

5 Signs You Need a Business Coach
1. You Constantly Feel Overwhelmed.
Do you feel like you live in a constant state of overwhelm?
Like you’re always putting out fires, and rarely actually getting ahead in your business?
If so, this is a surefire sign you need a business coach.
A business coach will reduce overwhelm by helping you decide on reasonable goals, set priorities, and stick to a realistic plan of action.

Most small business owners get really good at “doing it all”. Especially in the beginning, we become a jack-or-jill-of-all-trades, usually out of financial necessity.
But there comes a time in every business when you’re simply at the end of your own knowledge and skills.
For many day-to-day tasks, hiring a great team is the clear answer.
However, if the problem lies in not knowing how to set reasonable goals, how to stay motivated, or how to actually build your business, this is definitely a sign it’s time to hire a business coach.
This leads us to number 3…
3. Your Business Just Isn’t Growing (Despite Your Best Efforts).
It may be difficult to recognize when you’re at the end of your own abilities. However, if you’ve done everything you know how to do – and your business still isn’t growing – it’s time to hire a coach.

The signs of a healthy, growing business can include:
- A steady increase in your customer or client base
- Increased revenue
- A growing team of employees or contractors
- Increased demand among existing clients for your services
If you’re not seeing any of these signs in your business, it’s definitely time to find an experienced coach who will help you take your business to the next step.

4. You Crave Accountability.
As a small business owner, it can be really nice not to have to answer to anybody. As a matter of fact, the #1 reason most people become entrepreneurs in the first is for the freedom and flexibility that comes with being your own boss.
But if you find yourself becoming a little too relaxed and too complacent, you may be at the place where you need some accountability.
A business coach can help with goal setting, and with keeping you accountable to those goals.
And while it may feel a little strange to be accountable to someone else for your own goals, it’s really the best way to actually make progress in your business!
5. You Have No Direction.
If you feel like you’re spending most of your time working in your business – instead of on it – you’re probably suffering from a lack of direction.
This can cause you to feel stuck, leaving you spinning your wheels and simply doing the same things again and again (and we know this isn’t the way to get ahead in your business!).
A business coach can help you figure out the next steps for your business, so you have a clear purpose and direction to work towards.
Are you ready to grow your business, increase motivation, and start setting (and meeting) your goals? If so, the answer could very well be to hire a business coach!
